Nice story on Chiefs WR Demarcus Robinson over at the Chiefs website. BJ Kissel wrote about Robinson’s strong day at OTAs earlier this week and included a quote from Robinson who acknowledged he had a “great day” out there.
You can’t read too much into just one practice but I do find Robinson’s role an interesting question heading into 2017. He was essentially all special teams last season which sounds right because many receivers take a redshirt year in Andy Reid’s system.
Year two the expectations are going to be higher but how does he get on the field? There’s injury, of course. The Chiefs dealt with that with Jeremy Maclin last year.
Robinson is solidly behind Maclin, Tyreek Hill and Chris Conley. It’s hard for me to see any way that doesn’t involve an injury that Robinson gets snaps ahead of those three.
From there, he’s in competition with fourth round pick WR Jehu Chesson (who seems primed to get the Robinson treatment in year one), De’Anthony Thomas and Albert Wilson. I could see this being a strong competition here for 2-3 spots.
There are other receivers that will factor in (like Seantavious Jones) but it’s early enough that we don’t have a good grasp of who else is going to emerge.
