KC Chiefs coach Andy Reid wrapped up the first batch of OTAs on Thursday with a visit with the media. He didn’t break any big news or any news at all, really. It was a classic Big Red press conference in that sense.
He was asked several times by 810’s Kevin Kietzman about the Chiefs star players that are missing from OTAs, including Eric Berry, Marcus Peters and Justin Houston. Note that Reid can’t say or do anything to suggest this isn’t voluntary. And he didn’t.
A few quotes when he was asked about the missing players:
- “I just coach the guys that are here. That’s what I do The guys that are here are hungry for reps and that will do nothing but help us.”
- “It’s voluntary. They can be here or not be here. That’s up to them.”
- “It’s voluntary, man. Voluntary. Voluntary camp.”
He was asked about the tight ends getting extra reps because Travis Kelce is out with offseason shoulder surgery (he’ll be fine), why he enjoys coaching these days, how great it is to play in New England on Thursday night to kick off the season and a little bit on Alex Smith and Patrick Mahomes.
