Chiefs coaching staff can affect how they draft

Every team is going to say they trust their coaching staff to coach their draft picks up but in Kansas City you have two decades of experience of Andy Reid and his staff doing just that. There’s a high amount of confidence that GM John Dorsey can drop off a draft pick and Big Red’s staff is going to get the most out of him.

Dorsey was asked about taking guys based on their future potential rather than what they’ve already done and he said the Chiefs can do that because of the coaching staff.

“I know from our team, where we are with the team right now, with the coaches that we have in place and our ability to coach at those different positions, I think you can do these types of things,” Dorsey said.

I don’t think he’s blowing smoke when he says that. The Chiefs have been pretty good at the draft the past few years. Both the front office and coaching staff have earned my trust.

It’s still a mix between potential and proven production. In one round you take Tanoh Kpassagnon, a physical freak coming from Villanova who needs to be coached up, and in the next round you Kareem Hunt, who didn’t test like a freak but has proven it in four years at Toledo.
