Chiefs schedule 2017: Patriots are 7-point favorites in early line

The Chiefs will open the 2017 season against the Patriots in New England. You couldn’t ask for a tougher first game than the defending champs in their own house. The home team usually wins this game but the Chiefs will make it competitive despite the Patriots being 7-point favorites.

I kinda like it and I’ll explain why:

The Chiefs get more time to prepare for the Patriots. Listen (Andy Reid voice), this is the hardest game of the season. Why not play that game with the most amount of time to prepare? The Patriots have more time to prepare as well but the Chiefs are pretty good with extra time.

The Chiefs get a mini-bye for their second game. They’ll have two mini-byes actually with two Thursday night games, along with their actual bye. They get the benefit of the Thursday night game mini-bye without the short rest.

You’re going to play the Patriots no matter what. They’re going to be a tough out in Week 1, 7 or 15. Get it out of the way early when no one expects you to win instead of this being your Super Bowl in December.

I like watching the Chiefs in primetime. I always vote for more primetime games. Nope, don’t care about Andy Reid’s record in primetime ... it’s just more fun to watch your team when they’re the only game on.
