It looks like the Chiefs will have at least five national TV games — the opener on NBC, MNF vs. Redskins, SNF at Texans, TNF at Raiders, MNF vs. Broncos and the Chargers on NFLN (I’m not sure if that’s nationally televised or not but it’s at night).
The Chiefs have the second toughest schedule in the NFL, according to the strength of schedule. This is mainly because the AFC West was a powerhouse last season. The four toughest schedules in the NFL are Broncos, Chiefs, Chargers and Raiders — all AFC West teams.
The NFL schedule is formulaic in that we already know the Chiefs future schedule, for the most part. Each year the Chiefs play their divisional opponents twice so that’s six games. They also play one rotating NFC and AFC division each year for eight more games. The Chiefs then play the team that finished in the same spot as them in the two other AFC divisions. For example, the Chiefs are playing the AFC West and AFC East this year. They finished first in the division last year so they’ll play the first place AFC North team (Steelers) and first place AFC South team (Texans).
