The legal tampering period begins today and runs through Thursday when free agency begins, which means we’re going to start hearing some free agency rumors. For the Kansas City Chiefs, that means Dontari Poe rumors as he’s the only big name free agent the Chiefs have.
Poe’s market is a tough one to figure out. We haven’t nailed down exactly what his market is or how much he’ll get but we do have a prediction from Rotoworld’s Evan Silva who pegs Poe at $10-11.5 million per year.
That sounds ... about right. MNChiefsfan said he’d feel comfortable paying $8 million per year. There is so much free agency money available this year that you can probably add on a million or two onto whatever you predict.
The Chiefs can sell free agents on a good, stable franchise that will be competing for the playoffs every year. There is some value in that. But the Cleveland Browns have over $100 million in cap space entering free agency. There’s a lot of value in that!
Poe should take the money, whoever is offering. He’ll be 27 when the next season starts. This will be his only big money deal as few 350-pound guys over 30 get paid. He busted his ass in Kansas City and earned whatever he gets. I hope it’s in Kansas City but I’m not expecting it.
