The Kansas City Chiefs met with a bunch of players from the 2017 NFL Combine. Each team can do 60 interviews with Combine participants. Often the Chiefs draft picks have landed on this interview list but they won’t interview every draft pick of theirs here so there’s still a lot of uncertainty.
We have rounded up a list of the Chiefs interviews from the Combine. These come from the transcripts of the prospect’s press conferences as well as from the KC Star’s Terez Paylor and Chiefs.com’s BJ Kissel, who have both provided great coverage this week. Quarterback
The Chiefs also met with Mitch Trubisky informally, according to BJ Kissel. There seems to be more interest in a quarterback this year than in previous years. Indeed, I went back and checked our old Chiefs draft interests trackers dating back to 2009 and there are more quarterbacks on this list than we usually see. Of course, we don’t know about every interview every year ...
Running back
Ohio State RB / WR Curtis Samuel
Louisiana-Lafayette RB Elijah McGuire
North Carolina State RB Matt Dayes
Another need position. The thing I always look to with these backs is can they catch the ball and can they pass protect. Every team wants their backs to be able to do that but especially Andy Reid’s teams.
Defensive line
The Chiefs are on the verge of potentially losing Dontari Poe but I would be surprised if they went first round with a defensive lineman.
Linebacker
Another need position, both inside and outside. Inside, the Chiefs need to draft Derrick Johnson’s replacement / insurance with his Achilles. That could come as high as the first round. On the outside, the Chiefs should always be looking for pass rushers. Despite Justin Houston, Tamba Hali and Dee Ford on the team last year, the Chiefs pass rush wasn’t good enough.
Cornerbacks
The Chiefs need to continue adding corners in every day. Terrance Mitchell could be a mirage or he could be the real thing. The sample size is small. Plus, Phillip Gaines is no sure thing with his injuries. They need depth.
