Our pals over at SB Nation’s Giants blog, Big Blue View, did a seven round mock draft which turned out an interesting draft for the Kansas City Chiefs. There is no Chiefs quarterback picked high in this one. They do take one in the seventh round but your dreams of Deshaun Watson or Patrick Mahomes aren’t happening in this mock draft.
The Chiefs first round pick is edge rusher Charles Harris. A lot of local folks probably have an opinion on this one because he went to Mizzou. It’s hard to say no to a pass rusher you believe in and the Chiefs do need more pass rush help. It’s just kinda frustrating that after Justin Houston and Tamba Hali’s new contracts and the drafting of Dee Ford, the Chiefs still need pass rush help. They should be good but they weren’t last year. That’s frustrating.
The second and third round picks are recognizable names - East Carolina WR Zay Jones, who some had going in the first round and Texas RB D’Onta Freeman. Hmm, a Texas running back in the third round would be fitting considering they’re replacing a Texas running back who was picked in the third round in 2008 (that’s Jamaal Charles for those of you not paying attention).
Is this a good mock for the Chiefs? I like the first three picks but I really don’t like not getting a quarterback so I’m going to say this is not a good mock for the Chiefs. An interesting one. I appreciate something different but I need that quarterback high in this draft.
Anyway, here are the Chiefs picks. Check out the whole mock here.
