We mentioned the other day that it looks like with the Kansas City Chiefs free agent moves so far they won’t be bringing in a wave of compensatory picks next year. The Chiefs received four comp picks this year because of their free agent moves last year. Over The Cap has an early projection on the Chiefs 2018 compensatory picks:
Right now, the only visible change is that the Chiefs' 2018 compensatory pick for Nick Foles falls to a 6th, something I anticipated anyway.— Nick Korte (@nickkorte) March 21, 2017
Dontari Poe signing a one-year deal rather than a larger one didn’t help nor did the Chiefs signing a true free agent in Bennie Logan. Those moves probably canceled each other out.
We don’t know the exact formula and free agency is still going on but this looks like a pretty good guess on what the Chiefs will get. This year the Chiefs notably lost a sixth round pick thanks to Roger Goodell who snuck into the Chiefs room late at night and stole it along with last year’s third round pick.
