2017 NFL mock draft: 3-round mock goes all defense for Chiefs

SB Nation’s Dan Kadar released a fresh three round 2017 NFL mock draft for the day after the Super Bowl. This mock draft goes all defense for the Chiefs, which is something I could see happening. Despite recent investments in the defense, they are getting older in some spots. The pass rush and Derrick Johnson’s future need to be addressed. Offensively, outside of the quarterback and running back, I’m not sure how many needs you have (which is a weird thing to say about a team that was not great on offense last year).

Here are the three picks for this mock draft:

27. Kansas City Chiefs: Jarrad Davis, LB, Florida

59. Kansas City Chiefs: Eddie Vanderdoes, DT, UCLA

91. Kansas City Chiefs: Marcus Maye, S, Florida

It’s still too early for me to be talking about specific players but you can see some of the logic here. You bring in a linebacker to replace Derrick Johnson, a defensive tackle to add to a line that could be losing Dontari Poe and another safety because you always need safeties.

As for the quarterbacks, some are going to find this mock frustrating for KC because there isn’t a quarterback for the Chiefs. Mitch Trubisky (49ers) went No. 2, DeShone Kizer (Bears) went No. 3 and Deshaun Watson went No. 10 (Bills). That left Patrick Mahomes on the board until the 45th pick.

Remember the Chiefs could have another third round compensatory pick, which would come at the end of the round.
