Why are the Chiefs listed so high on the odds to land Adrian Peterson?

Someone asked me if the Kansas City Chiefs should sign Adrian Peterson, who is on track to hit free agency on March 9 after the Vikings announced they will not pick up his 2017 option. I said sure I’d be interested in Peterson ... if he wanted to play for the minimum. Which he won’t.

I saw some Chiefs fans talking about Peterson but that happens with most big names when they go to free agency. Are the Chiefs a real player for Peterson? I don’t have any inside info but I would guess not. They have their own Adrian Peterson in Jamaal Charles and we don’t even know what they’ll do with him yet, let alone the salary cap questions.

Anyway, I say all that because of these odds from Bovada. Why are the Chiefs listed so high? Is it simply because the public believes they’re going to lose Jamaal Charles and you can insert another big name in there? The Chiefs do have a need at running back but Peterson is as big of a risk as Jamaal, who is younger and who I would argue fits Andy Reid’s offense better.

So ... yeah. I don’t know why they’re listed so high here. Maybe we can ask them about it when those Tony Romo odds come in.
