It’s not official. The Kansas City Chiefs have announced the contract extension for right guard Laurent Duvernay-Tardif. The Chiefs don’t release the terms of the deal but reports say it’s a five-year extension worth $41.25 million and $20 million guaranteed.
We don’t know any details beyond that besides that the Chiefs have confirmed it. Here’s what GM John Dorsey said in a statement:
“Laurent has grown significantly in his three years as a professional,” Dorsey said. “He brings a lot of mental and physical toughness to the position, and last season he was able to become a key contributor to our offense. Laurent has a bright future here.”
This deal wasn’t on my radar at all. One thing we have to remember when analyzing these deals is that the cap has been going up by $10+ million per year recently so the deals signed three years ago or even a couple years ago feel out-dated quickly. That’s why, although it seems like big money, I’m not too concerned about the amount.
