NFL mock draft 2017: Chiefs pick of cornerback brings some questions

There is no consensus yet for the Kansas City Chiefs and 2017 NFL mock drafts but I’ve been seeing a number of cornerbacks. Chiefs fans know that at the corner opposite Marcus Peters they had Terrance Mitchell, who ended up playing pretty well down the stretch.

The question is how much do you trust Mitchell. If you think he’s as good as he played in the last month of the season, he could lock down that other corner position. However, that’s a small sample size. What if he’s not that good? What if you ignored that position in the draft and you’re not set like you thought you were?

SB Nation’s Dan Kadar has been releasing mocks and focusing on cornerbacks and some quarterbacks for the Chiefs. For this mock, he has the Chiefs taking Florida cornerback Teez Tabor.

27. Kansas City Chiefs: Teez Tabor, CB, Florida

This is another player teams will have to get comfortable with on a personal level after he was suspended a game last season after having an altercation with a teammate.

At 6’ and 201 pounds, he has great size. I haven’t watched hours of his tape but that some are projecting him as a first round pick says he’s doing something right.

The Chiefs evaluations of cornerbacks have been up and down. Marcus Peters was a homerun. So was the Sean Smith signing a couple of years ago. Terrance Mitchell was good but the Chiefs also cut him last year. Phillip Gaines’ injury issues are biting them with that pick. Will the Chiefs try again with a cornerback?

(By the way, three quarterbacks were off the board in the top six picks in this mock)
