NFL mock draft 2017: Chiefs get another Marcus Peters

Interesting 2017 NFL mock draft from SB Nation’s Dan Kadar who has the Kansas City Chiefs going cornerback. Dan wrote that this mock draft was an idea of what the Chiefs could do if both Eric Berry and Dontari Poe are brought back. That sure opens up the Chiefs options if they do that. Even if they only bring one or the other back, the Chiefs have a lot of options. But in this mock...

The pick for the Chiefs: Washington CB Sidney Jones.

“If the draft shakes out in this fashion with Cunningham and Reddick gone,” Kadar writes, “the Chiefs could go after a quality No. 2 cornerback. Both Jones and Ohio State’s Gareon Conley should be under strong consideration.”

A cornerback from Washington? Hmm. I’m not sure about that ... oh, hey, Marcus Peters! They’re both 6’ tall but Peters (197) currently has about 16 pounds on Jones (181) so it might depend on how well Jones can put on weight. The Chiefs have formulas they use to predict how well someone can put on weight and muscle.

As for cornerback, sure, Terrance Mitchell played well for a month last year but I would be hesitant to put all your eggs in that basket. If Mitchell turns out to be a great corner then you’ve got 3-4 corners you really like. Good problem to have.

In this mock, only Patrick Mahomes remains among the top four quarterbacks with Mitch Trubisky, Deshaun Watson and DeShone Kizer going in the top 11 picks.

Check out the mock, which includes some trades in the first round.
