The Kansas City Chiefs have an option on Nick Foles for the 2017 season and it appears they are likely to pass on that option. That’s what many of us have been expecting. This information comes from Mike Garafolo of NFL Network.

I don’t know the details of his contract other than what’s been reported publicly in places like Over The Cap. They had Foles with a $10.4 million base salary and a $10.75 million cap hit in 2017 and if cut the Chiefs would get that cap space back. It appears that Garafolo is saying it’s less than that. So I’m not sure on the specifics here.
Either way, $6.4 million or $10.4 million, this is the move that many of us figured the Chiefs would make. It’s too much money for a backup quarterback even if they like Foles.
The Chiefs 2017 quarterback options now look like Alex Smith as your starter and Tyler Bray behind him. After typing that sentence, I’m pretty sure the Chiefs are going to draft a quarterback this year.
