NFL Network’s Mike Mayock has released his first set of positional rankings for the 2017 NFL Draft. Some of you follow Mayock as the gospel while others don’t think anyone knows what they’re talking about when it comes to the draft. Whichever one you are, let’s talk about the quarterbacks in this draft. Mayock has them ranked differently than what we’ve seen in a lot of other places.
1. DeShone Kizer, Notre Dame
2. Deshaun Watson, Clemson
3. Mitch Trubisky, North Carolina
4. Patrick Mahomes II, Texas Tech
5. Davis Webb, California
Deshaun Watson and Mitch Trubisky seem to get more attention than DeShone Kizer. In Kansas City, we’ve often heard the name Patrick Mahomes because it’s believed he could be available at the end of the first round where the Chiefs are picking.
There are always so many teams that need a quarterback and it’s so much cheaper to draft one so I expect we’ll see a nice run on quarterbacks this year. There could easily be 4-5 guys going in the first two rounds. The Chiefs know all this. They know if they want one of these guys they’ll probably have to draft him in the first round.
Unless ... there isn’t a run on quarterbacks. Mike Mayock said drafting any of these quarterbacks in the top 10 would scare him.
