It’s possible this is the last we’re seeing of Dee Ford (well, in a Chiefs uniform). The Chiefs announced he has been placed on injured reserve, which means his season is over. He hasn’t played in weeks with a back injury. The Chiefs also signed DT Justin Hamilton so they’ll roll with the pass rushers they got, mainly Justin Houston.
This very well could mean the end of Ford in Kansas City. Yes, the Chiefs did exercise his fifth-year option at $8.7 million next season. But that is guaranteed for injury only which means it’s not guaranteed if Ford is healthy next season (or it is guaranteed if he’s not healthy).
I don’t know the extend of his back injury that has kept him out but if Ford is healthy for the new league year in March then the Chiefs can part ways with him. Or they may end up keeping him at $8.7 million because the Chiefs pass rush has been bad. It’s still too early to tell for sure but it certainly doesn’t feel like there’s positive momentum with Ford in Kansas City.

Will Dee Ford be a Chief in 2018?
Speaking of pass rushers being shut down, the Chiefs announced this week they will not be bringing back LB Dadi Nicolas to the active roster this season. He will remain done. He was hurt last season, started the season on the PUP list but won’t come off of it.
