Chiefs are on verge of setting an NFL record Alex Smith would be proud of

The Kansas City Chiefs are on the verge of setting a very Alex Smith NFL record. All they have to do is not turn it over this weekend against the Broncos.

The Chiefs offense has nine total turnovers this season — two fumbles and seven interceptions (with Travis Kelce and Tyreek Hill both throwing an interception this year). The NFL record for fewest turnovers in a season is 10.

So, if the Chiefs don’t turn it over this weekend, they’ll set a new NFL record for fewest giveaways in a season.

The current record is 10 and was set by the 2010 Patriots led by Tom Brady and the 2011 49ers led by ... Alex Smith. Brady had four picks that season and Alex had five in 2011 and has five again this year.

Ironically, Alex Smith (presumably) won’t be playing in this weekend’s game to help the Chiefs set the turnover record. Patrick Mahomes will be starting which means he’s already got a lot on his shoulders. Don’t screw up the record, kid.
