Pressure will be on Chiefs offensive line vs. Chargers

The Kansas City Chiefs offensive line will be in the spotlight once again. That’s because one of the top matchups in this weekend’s game is the Los Angeles Chargers pass rushing duo of Joey Bosa and Melvin Ingram against the Chiefs offensive line.

I didn’t expect this to be the best pass rush the Chiefs face all year but I think it might be.

“They’re bringing it every snap,” Chiefs coach Andy Reid said this week. “They’re great with their combinations and twist games. They’re going to give you four good quarters of aggressive football.”

The Chargers had five sacks on the Chiefs in their Week 3 matchup. It wasn’t a game where the Chiefs were losing and in obvious passing situations all game either. The Chargers got after them but the Chiefs were still able to put up 24 points.

According to PFF, Alex Smith was pressured in the last Chargers game five times and he was sacked all five times. When Alex had a clean pocket, he went 16/21 for 153 yards and two touchdowns.

Seems obvious what to do here, doesn’t it? Keep Alex clean. Eric Fisher needs to have a great game on the left side (he didn’t allow a pressure last time around, surprisingly) and Mitch Schwartz needs to continue playing well on the right side.

Stop those pass rushers and I can believe in the Chiefs offense in this game.
