NFL playoff picture update: Dangerous teams remain in the hunt

The Kansas City Chiefs are back on solid ground in the NFL playoff picture. At least for one week. The Chiefs remain in the No. 4 seed in the AFC which means they are on track to host a home playoff game.

If the playoffs started today, the Titans would be coming to Arrowhead, which is a matchup most Chiefs fans would take (Marcus Mariota has 10 touchdowns to 14 interceptions this season).

The Chiefs-Chargers game this Saturday night is a big one. The Chiefs currently own the tiebreaker over the Chargers and have just one division loss to the Chargers two. This is a big, big game for the AFC West.

The Steelers and Patriots remain the top two seeds and barring a meltdown they still stay that way. The Patriots are still to play this week on Monday night against the Dolphins, which shouldn’t change much because they should win.

The Jaguars jumped over the Titans in the AFC South to claim the No. 3 seed, which means they too would be hosting a playoff game.

The Ravens are in the sixth and final spot. The Chargers and Bills are both 7-6 as well so tiebreakers will come into play there.

AFC playoff picture

  1. Steelers (11-2)
  2. Patriots (10-2)
  3. Jaguars (9-4)
  4. Chiefs (7-6)
  5. Titans (8.5)
  6. Ravens (7-6)
  7. Chargers (7-6)*
  8. Bills (7-6)*

The NFC playoff picture is going to look much different in reality. If Carson Wentz is done then so are the Eagles. They might be able to win a game with Nick Foles but they’re going to win two games against the best NFC teams.

The Rams lost to the Eagles but looked really good doing it in a 43-35 loss. They are going to be a tough out in the playoffs. The Panthers and Falcons have repped the NFC in the last two Super Bowls and they wrap up the final two playoff spots.

The Seahawks are surprisingly not in the playoffs right now. They’re a very dangerous team in the hunt.

NFC playoff picture

  1. Eagles (11-2)
  2. Vikings (10-3)
  3. Rams (9-4)
  4. Saints (9-4)
  5. Panthers (9-4)
  6. Falcons (8-5)
  7. Seahawks (8-5)*
