Chiefs LB Tamba Hali has been activated

The Kansas City Chiefs have activated Tamba Hali, per the team’s official Twitter account:

The Chiefs have also waived cornerback DJ White, who they selected in the sixth round of the 2016 NFL Draft. White appeared in 11 games and recorded 11 tackles and a pick.

It was a strange week in the realm of Hali news, where he went from practicing to not practicing to finally practicing for the first time on Thursday. The team also reportedly tweaked his contract.

The Chiefs had three weeks to decided whether or not they wanted to activate Hali, so they must have liked what they saw in the two looks this week. Dee Ford being officially designated as out with a back injury could have also speeded up the process.

When asked about how Hail looked on Friday, Chiefs head coach Andy Reid said he did “all right” and was “knocking the dust off.”

“I don’t know – we’re literally just taking this day by day and just seeing,” he said. “Let’s just see what happens, see how it goes here. Play it day by day. It’s really how everything holds up down there.”

Regardless of the reasoning, Hali is now eligible to play against the Dallas Cowboys on Sunday, and I strongly doubt the Chiefs would have activated him to the 53-man roster if they didn’t intend on playing him.
