Chiefs hope to avoid the fate of the 2015 Falcons, 2016 Vikings

The idea of starting out 5-0 on the season and then NOT making the playoffs is so crazy that you’d think it’s very rare. While it is somewhat rare, it’s happened in each of the past two seasons.

The 2015 Falcons started out 5-0 and moved to 6-1 before dropping six consecutive games. They finished the season at 8-8 and missed the playoffs.

The 2016 Vikings did the same thing. They started out 5-0, lost four straight and then lost four of their final six to finish out the season. They finished the season 8-8 and missed the playoffs.

Are the Chiefs the 2017 version of this? They obviously started out 5-0 and now stand at 6-5. I remember some people (non-Chiefs fans) after the Chiefs 5-0 start saying they could be this year’s Vikings. That was such a ridiculous thought to me at the time that I laughed it off. The Chiefs had beaten the Patriots and Eagles! They were tested! Alex Smith was an MVP candidate!

Now, that appears to be fool’s gold. The Chiefs are not the 5-0 team we thought they were but the season is not over yet. The Chiefs can’t be this bad ... right?
