Andy Reid says Chiefs are in good shape coming off the bye week

Welcome back from the bye week. I was able to get out of town for a few days with Mrs. Arrowhead Pride and not think about football. But that only lasted so long (because I still had Twitter on my phone).

Let’s check in with Andy Reid coming off the bye week. How did he think the first half of the season went?

“We are in good shape,” Reid told the KC media on Monday. “We didn’t finish up at the bye very well. We have all been sitting here, fans included, on a loss for a couple weeks.”

The bye is indeed much longer after a loss.

“But, I like this team and I like their work ethic,” Reid continued. “I like the way they battled through the first nine games. But there is room for us as coaches and players to improve. To me, I get kind of fired up about that. That is where I am at. That is how I feel as I stand before you right now.”

The first five games were great and then the Chiefs lost three out of four so you can have an extreme opinion on this team either way and have plenty of evidence to back up your take. I happen to think the Chiefs are one of 4-5 teams in the AFC who are all pretty similar. Nobody is special this year but matchups do matter (hello, Pittsburgh).

I’m looking forward to the second half of the season. It’ll feel like we’re getting back to normal because there will be more noon games on Sunday rather than all the primetime and late afternoon games we saw in the first half of the season.

Welcome back.
