Alex Smith is the Kansas City Chiefs midseason MVP. You shouldn’t be surprised at that if you’ve been reading this here blog. We predicted before the season that Alex would have his best career as a pro because he has now five years in this offense AND he has a little pressure from the Chiefs rookie quarterback.
Alex is the type of guy that rises to the occasion. Look at some of his playoff performances (not all, I know) and that shows. The pressure was on when the Chiefs selected Mahomes and I predicted before the season that Alex would put up his best season.
Don’t worry, I won’t hurt myself patting myself on my back. That’s because no one predicted he would start off this good.
He is on pace for 4,362 passing yards which would blow his career high of 3,502 passing yards out of the water. He already has 16 touchdown passes this season which is already more than he had last season (15). He hasn’t thrown an interception and has just one fumble lost. One turnover from the guy who touches the ball every play? That’s pretty good, I hear.
Alex has three games this season with at least three touchdown passes. He’s gone over 300 yards three times this year already. You know how many times he’s had that many 300-yard games in a season before? Zero.
He’s at his best when the Chiefs need him the most — when they’re losing.
So, Alex is your midseason MVP. He’s in the running for the NFL MVP. The second half of the Chiefs schedule lightens up so it’s possible this MVP conversation will continue to intensify as the season goes on.
