Chiefs officially activate Steven Nelson a few hours before the Broncos game

Sure looks like Steven Nelson is coming back. Or the Chiefs are just getting our hopes up. The Chiefs have formally activated Nelson from the injured reserve list which means he is one of the 53 on the 53-man roster.

Nelson is the Chiefs No. 2 cornerback who was put on injured reserve shortly before the season so this would be his first game back. In the Chiefs subpackage (five defensive backs on the field), the cornerbacks should be Marcus Peters and Terrance Mitchell on the outside with Nelson on the inside. This means that one corner will be bumped off the field and that could be Phillip Gaines, who has played the slot and been the third cornerback with Nelson out.

The Chiefs will announce their inactives 90 minutes before the game tonight so we’ll see by then what the Chiefs plan for Nelson is.
