How new was Harrison Butker? The KC Chiefs new kicker, who was signed last week in place of the injured (and now released) Cairo Santos, was so new that Travis Kelce had to introduce himself to him. Really.
Kelce mentioned that he walked up to him and said, “Hi, I’m Travis” before the game but I thought he was joking. Another reporter said, wait a minute, did you really introduce yourself and Kelce confirmed that he did.
Butker went 3/4 on the night including the game winning field goal. He missed one field goal so I don’t feel completely comfortable with him yet but the game winner can make you forget about a lot of mistakes.
Butker was completely mobbed by reporters after the game.
“After I missed the first kick I was dwelling on it a little too long but once it goes off of your shoulder, you have to forget about it,” Butker told the media. “I knew I was going to have another opportunity. I wouldn’t say nervous, I was really excited.”
The best part of the night for Butker might’ve been his new nickname. We thought his Twitter name of @ButtKicker87 was pretty good and apparently Andy Reid did, too. After the game, he called him “Butt Kicker dot com.” Yes, dot com.
