Former Chiefs LB Nico Johnson announces his retirement

Congrats to the Kansas City Chiefs 2013 fourth round pick Nico Johnson on his NFL career. The 27-year old Johnson announced his retirement on Twitter.

“With my body and my mental state of mind just can’t take getting my body back to playing mode anymore,” Johnson wrote. “That flame that once burned bright like crazy is very dim, so I’m hanging the cleats up for good an excited to jump into my next chapter.”

Johnson was the Chiefs first attempt at finding an inside ‘backer to play next to Derrick Johnson. They would try Johnson, Akeem Jordan, Ramik Wilson and now Reggie Ragland (who am I forgetting in there).

He was in Kansas City for a year and a half before moving onto Cincinnati, Washington and New York.
