If you’ve ever been in the Alex Smith Warz in our comments section, you always get someone pointing out that the Chiefs don’t have much cap space and so they’ll need the $17 million in cap space they’d get from cutting Alex next year. That’s true, the Chiefs could REALLY use that cap space next year as Jason from Over The Cap shows here:
ICYM II Least projected cap room 2018
— Jason_OTC (@Jason_OTC) October 23, 2017
1 Pit- ($3.1M)
2 KC- ($1.6M)
3 Mia- $2.7M
4 Atl- $10.2M
5 Phi- $10.2M
6 Bal- $10.8M
7 Car- $14M
The Chiefs are projected to have the second least amount of cap space and they’re currently projected to be in the hole next year. This list will change as teams cut players for cheaper draft picks or make trades or whatever else all the other moves are where teams get under the salary cap.
The Chiefs will be cap compliant but it shows you some of the stress they’ll be under to make it happen. It’s why one of the biggest advantages in football is having a starting quarterback on his rookie contract. I’m not sayin’, I’m just sayin’.
