The Kansas City Chiefs may not be seeing old friend CB Sean Smith this weekend. That’s because Smith has been benched. Seriously! The Raiders didn’t play him last week -- zero snaps.
“Things just weren’t going right and we felt like we needed to make a change and that’s what we did,” Raiders DC Ken Norton Jr. told the Oakland media this week via Raiders dot com.
Levi Damien of Silver and Black Pride says the benching came after giving up two big catches vs. the Ravens last week (in another loss).
“If he wants to get back on the field, he’s going to have to compete and show and work hard and make himself one of the top two or three corners to play,” Norton said.
What an incredible fall. I remember being very upset when I saw that the Raiders signed Smith for “only” $40 million over four years. I thought at the time the Chiefs should have matched then.
Then Smith got on the field and clearly he wasn’t the same player in Oakland as he was in Kansas City. Maybe it’s the scheme or maybe it’s his age (he’s 30) but the Chiefs decision to let him walk is looking like a good one.
