KC Chiefs head coach Andy Reid has mentioned a few times this year that the new trend across the league is to rush just three players and let the rest sit back in coverage. The Chiefs have done this plenty this season to some good results and some frustrating results.
I listened to this NFL Network podcast with Cynthia Frelund and Matt Smith that had a bunch of Chiefs stats in it and two of them jumped out. (The Chiefs talk is from about 15 minutes to 25 minutes)
Ben Roethlisberger’s passer rating under pressure this season is zero. Zero! The league average is 62.4.
The Chiefs send just three rushers the third most in the league. Against three man rushes, Big Ben’s passer rating is 103.5.
This feels like one of those games where the Steelers do a great job moving the ball against the Chiefs in the first half as we bang our heads against the wall bc DC Bob Sutton is only rushing three.
Then, where the Chiefs are good, is second half adjustments. Most fans complain about their team not making second half adjustments but the Chiefs seem to be really good at it. The Chiefs will come out in the second half and start pressuring Big Ben and it will work.
That’s my prediction on how this goes down.
