We watch the Kansas City Chiefs on Sundays but we never really know what they’re doing Monday through Saturday. We think they love the Chiefs as much as us and they’re constantly in the building trying to get better, which we know isn’t always true.
With Chris Jones, however, it is true.
“He’s one of those guys that stays in the building a lot,” Andy Reid said of Jones via quotes from the Chiefs.
That surprised me a little bit. I’m not sure why but you see Jones as this goofy dude who seems to just have natural strength. I didn’t equate that to tons of hard work which I probably should have if he’s playing this well at this level.
“He stays kind of in [Dontari] Poe’s hip pocket there and he makes sure he’s not missing anything from that standpoint,” Reid continued. “He watches a ton of tape. He is getting better as he goes.”
Reid said he has the stats to prove it as he’s near the top in quarterbacks hits and negative plays.
I keep wondering how Jones’ rookie year would look if Allen Bailey and Jaye Howard hadn’t gone down. Would we get to see this much of Jones? Probably not. You never root for injuries but the Chiefs were fortunate to get a lot of playing time for Jones.
