There’s a report out of the Milwaukee Journal-Sentinel that has a few nuggets of interest for Kansas City Chiefs fans.
First, it was reported that Chiefs GM John Dorsey’s contract was set to run out this year. That’s wrong, according to this report. Dorsey is under contract through the 2018 draft and so is Packers GM Ted Thompson.
Second, Bob McGinn - one of the top beat writers in the country - reports that Dorsey is the “best bet” to be the Packers next GM. If he’s under contract this year then I guess this would be referring to next year.
I know Dorsey called Kansas City a dream job but we can’t deny his long-time ties to Green Bay. Given his history and the history of the Packers franchise, I can see why that would be considered a step up for him personally. I will note that we have not heard anything from Dorsey on this so I don’t know what his feelings are.
The Packers had a couple of GM candidates in their front office in Eliot Wolf and Brian Gutekunst. Their futures in Green Bay will factor in, too.
There’s enough smoke here that it should be concerning. Maybe not this year but down the road this will come up again. It’s important then that Clark Hunt have a plan in place in case it does. Perhaps that’s why Chris Ballard is still in the Chiefs front office.
