Mel Kiper’s first mock draft has Chiefs going receiver

Mel Kiper’s first 2017 NFL mock draft is here and he has the Kansas City Chiefs taking WR Corey Davis out of Western Michigan. He was highly productive at Western Michigan with 1,500 yards and 19 touchdowns last season.

Do the Chiefs need another receiver? My first reaction was probably not with Travis Kelce, Tyreek Hill and Jeremy Maclin. But Maclin won’t be around forever and more playmakers can’t be a bad thing.

“Davis was one of the most productive wideouts in the country during his career at Western Michigan, catching 331 passes for 5,278 yards and 52 touchdowns,” Kiper wrote. “He has ideal size (6-2, 212) and length to be a great NFL wideout.”

I might lean more defense at this point. Maybe a pass rusher with the uncertainty around Justin Houston and Tamba Hali’s health. Maybe another safety to prepare for - gasp - the potential loss of Eric Berry. I’ll never turn down a cornerback either. Inside linebacker will be among the most popular picks this year, too. Anywhere on defense, really. The Chiefs brought the band back together last year but now it’s time to get younger.

Just because I like to see the comments section go up in flames, I would take a quarterback, too.

WMU's Corey Davis is a definite 1st RD pick

Do the Chiefs need to draft a WR high this year?
