Broncos will interview Dave Toub’s assistant with the Chiefs

The Denver Broncos didn’t hire Dave Toub as their head coach. They went with Vance Joseph instead. They are, however, considering hiring the closest thing to Dave Toub.

The Denver Post reports that Chiefs assistant special teams coach Brock Olivo is interviewing with the Broncos for their special teams coordinator position.

It’s impossible for me to sit here and tell you what I think about Olivo as a special teams coach. He’s never available to the media and Toub is known as a special teams guru so all the credit goes to him.

Toub interviewed for head coaching jobs this year. I assume Olivo would’ve been in the running to replace him had the Broncos or Chargers hired Toub. And now that Toub is in the rotation, I believe it’s only a matter of time until someone hires him as a head coach. Which means the Chiefs need to keep that assistant position filled with a potential candidate.

This is a step up for Olivo, who is the assistant special teams coach in Kansas City. Olivo was a terrific special teams player himself for the Lions (and Mizzou) before joining the Chiefs staff in 2014.
