Chiefs last home playoff win vs. Steelers should sound familiar to this group

The Kansas City Chiefs last playoff win came last year against the Texans. Their last playoff win at Arrowhead came 23 years ago. The Chiefs hosted the Steelers in the 1993 playoffs and beat them in overtime, 27-24. The Chiefs would go on to beat the Oilers in the Divisional round but lose to the Bills in the AFC Championship game.

I went back and re-watched some of that game and I must say the way that game went should sound familiar to this year’s Chiefs.

First, the Chiefs came from behind in that game. They were down 17-7 and then again down by seven with minutes left in the game. This year’s Chiefs team has come from behind (see the Denver win ... the first one because the Chiefs destroyed them the second one).

Second, the special teams play. Trailing by seven with a few minutes to play, the Chiefs blocked a Steelers punt and returned it to the nine yard line. That is the type of improbable special teams play that this year’s Chiefs team would have.

Third, the Chiefs won in overtime. They’ve been doing a lot of winning lately.

Our Steelers blog, Behind the Steel Curtain, called it one of the Steelers most disappointing playoff losses.
