The Kansas City Chiefs will be making a 10-man practice squad starting at 12 p.m. (Arrowhead Time) and we’ll be tracking it here. The Chiefs may not announce all 10 members this morning but we’ll have a good idea of who they are sometime today. They’ll also be using the waiver wire to claim players cut from other teams.

I have some thoughts below on the Chiefs recent cuts and whether they’re a fit for the practice squad. We will be adding the Chiefs practice squad rumors and news (official or otherwise) to this post when it comes in.

MORE: Chiefs 53-man roster

You can find the rules on practice squad eligibility here but they are notorious for being confusing. I’m pretty sure that most of the players listed here are practice squad eligible but every year I think there’s a surprise on who is or isn’t practice squad eligible.

As for the process, once a player with fewer than four years of service is cut they go through waivers where every team has a chance to claim them. If they clear waivers, they can join the practice squad (provided they’re practice squad eligible).

MORE: 5 thoughts on the Chiefs roster cuts

I put some thoughts down below on the players that could be headed to the Chiefs practice squad. This list is made up of the players that were just cut this week. In some cases, the Chiefs will tell the player they’re cutting that they hope he clears waivers and he will be on the practice squad.

Chiefs practice squad candidates

WR Mitch Mathews: The Chiefs reportedly told him they want him on the practice squad if he doesn’t sign with another team.

QB Kevin Hogan: The Chiefs probably didn’t draft him in May to cut him in September, right? He should be safe on the waiver wire.

TE Brian Parker: They liked him enough to claim him off waivers and carry him on the 53-man roster last year. He still could be there if not for the emergence of Ross Travis.

C Daniel Munyer: Backup center. Remember last year when Mitch Morse had a concussion? The Chiefs brought up Munyer from the practice squad. Wouldn’t be surprised if we saw that again.

OL Jarrod Pughsley: He can play multiple o-line positions. The Chiefs will need a couple guys like that on the practice squad.

LB Terrance Smith: Future inside linebacker. He actually appeared to overtake DJ Alexander there late in the preseason. He’s the only undrafted player from FSU’s title team.

RB Darrin Reaves: It was reported at the time of his release that the Chiefs were hoping to bring him back to the practice squad. Small chance he gets claimed but I think he’ll be safe.

OT Reid Fragel: So I think Zach Sterup will be the Chiefs swing tackle they want here but Sterup is suspended. I’m not completely sure how that roster spot works for for now we keep Fragel as an extra tackle.

OT Zach Sterup: Yeah so like I said Sterup is ahead of Fragel but I’m not sure how the Chiefs will treat Sterup’s four-game suspension.

LB Tyrell Adams: He was on the practice squad last year so the Chiefs have some time invested in him. Will they keep two linebackers on the practice squad?

S Shak Randolph: 6’4 safety? He’s intriguing.

DT David King: The Chiefs are deep on the d-line so he might make the 53-man in other years.

DE Jimmy Staten: Same as King. Assuming he’s got practice squad eligibility I could see him coming back.

CB Deveron Carr: Another one where it’s not completely clear whether he has eligibility but I liked what I saw out of him in camp.

WR Seantavius Jones: I didn’t think he would go in the initial round of cut downs (from 90 to 75). He’s got some talent.

DB Brock Vereen: 2014 fourth round pick. He came to camp late so maybe he didn’t have enough time to impress.

QB Aaron Murray: Doubt he’s practice squad bound with Kevin Hogan in house.

WR DaRon Brown: 2015 seventh roudn pick who was on the practice squad last year.

DL Niko Davis: He flashed a couple times. I would doubt he makes it but it’s possible.

DB Bryce Cheek

OL Curtis Feigt

CB Malcolm Jackson

G Garrick Mayweather

Don’t think this group is practice squad eligible:
