Chiefs roster cuts include Kevin Hogan, two trades

The Kansas City Chiefs roster cuts are in and they’re down to 53 players. They made two trades (Marcus Cooper, Rod Streater) in addition to other cuts. QB Kevin Hogan was cut, which was one of the big questions we had. Note that many of these players are going to be going to the practice squad. The Chiefs will make a 10-man practice squad by Sunday and I bet it’s made up of players from this list below. Some were previously reported and some are new. Here they are:

WR Rod Streater (traded to 49ers): Who saw this coming? Wow. I don’t know what the pick is.

LB Tyrell Adams: He could be a practice squad guy. He flashed.

WR Frankie Hammond: The reign of Frankie is over. He’s stuck around for a few years.

QB Kevin Hogan: Here ya go so this is what they’re doing. He could be a practice squad candidate. Surely the Chiefs didn’t draft him just to cut him.

OT Zach Sterup: He’s suspended for the first four games so he could come back after that.

DB Brock Vereen: He came to the Chiefs late in camp so it was tough for him.

DT David King: I thought he had a shot but it speaks to the Chiefs d-line depth. He could get picked up someplace. He made the Seahawks 53-man last year.

TE Brian Parker: He was the fifth tight end. He is a good blocker but doesn't have the receiving skills of Ross Travis.

C Daniel Munyer: Zach Fulton backing up the center position cost Munyer. He was promoted from the practice squad last year when Mitch Morse had a concussion so he could stick around on the practice squad.

OL Jarrod Pughsley: He can play guard and tackle and has been around. Could be a practice squad guy.

DE Jimmy Staten: He just tweeted something ominous that appears he has been cut. He's a good player who could get picked up someplace.

S Shak Randolph: Big guy who has some nice athleticism. I could see him being a practice squad candidate.

LB Terrance Smith: Inside linebacker and special teamer. He has enough upside to make the 53-man roster next year as an injury replacement this year.

RB Darrin Reaves: A minor surprise here as many of us had him making it. The Chiefs hope to put him on the practice squad.

QB Aaron Murray: Not a shocker but the biggest name here. He will end up on a team someplace. Will he be claimed?

LB Andy Mulumba: He was probably battling Dadi Nicolas for the final pass rusher spot.

CB Marcus Cooper (traded to Cardinals): Nice job by Dorsey to get something for a player they were potentially going to cut. He wasn’t on our radar as a trade candidate.

CB Deveron Carr: I actually like him. He had little shot of making the roster but he's worth spending more time with. Curious to see what happens.

OT Reid Fragel: Long shot to begin with. Maybe he’s a practice squad guy while Zach Sterup is suspended.

WR DaRon Brown: 2015 seventh round pick. Could be a practice squad guy or could be gone. Hasn’t made much of an impact.

S Jeron Johnson: Some people had him on the 53-man roster. He is one of the most experienced (five years) players in the secondary.

S Jamell Fleming: Moved from corner to safety this year. Not a surprising cut given where he was on the depth chart.
