I saw the Kansas City Chiefs 2016 schedule first come out and I noticed that this Week 3 game was at home and a late afternoon game at 3:25 p.m (Arrowhead Time). The Chiefs home games are almost always 12 p.m. Why the change? I’m not sure we’ve heard an explanation why (maybe it’s obvious and someone in the comments will point it out).
I thought it had been a long time since the Chiefs had a late afternoon home game but a few followers on Twitter reminded me of a couple very recently:
January 3, 2016: The Chiefs were scheduled to play at noon but the NFL moved them to the late game so that they played at the same time as the Broncos for playoff purposes. The Chiefs had already clinched the playoffs by this point so maybe I just blacked this game out of my memory.
December 1, 2013: The Chiefs second game against the Broncos that year after they started 9-0. The Chiefs were 9-2 and they were flexed to the late afternoon game. They couldn’t go to Sunday Night (if I recall) because they had just played in primetime two Sundays before.
Anyone else remember late afternoon home games? I know we’re missing some.
