The Chiefs were really, really trying to get Jeremy Maclin the ball

One more note on the Chiefs-Texans game then we’re moving on. This is something I heard from Terez Paylor who was on 610 Sports. Did you realize that Jeremy Maclin had 15 targets in Sunday’s game against the Texans? 15! For contact, DeAndre Hopkins (11) and Will Fuller (seven) combined for 18. Maclin caught just six of those 15 targets for 68 yards. It was a weird game for Maclin with a couple of drops too.

That many targets is probably due to a few factors.

Maclin’s good and they want to get him the ball. Duh. He’s their best receiver and the Chiefs offense is at its best when he’s fed the ball.

Travis Kelce was locked down. Kelce was next up with seven targets but he had just 34 yards off of five catches. The Texans did a good job containing him which led to more Maclin targets.

The Chiefs were losing. The score said it was a close game but it FELT like the Chiefs were way behind and needed to do a lot of passing to catch up.

I find it interesting that Maclin has a rough day and so does the Chiefs offense. You might say they’re connected.
