There goes the Aaron Murray era. The Kansas City Chiefs have as many expected decided to cut Aaron Murray, according to a report from Mike Florio of Pro Football Talk.

At one point since he was a 2014 fifth round pick we viewed him as the backup of the future and perhaps the quarterback of the future. However, nothing really materialized. Chase Daniel was here for Murray’s first two years so he wasn’t beating him out. Then the Chiefs extended Tyler Bray last year. They jumped at the chance to get Nick Foles a few weeks ago, which was the writing on the wall for Murray. There was no spot for him on this roster but Murray should find himself in the NFL soon enough. He’s got the talent to compete for a backup spot and continue to develop.
The question becomes now who claims him off the waiver wire, if anyone does. The Cowboys have priority over the Vikings, who just lost Teddy Bridgewater. Murray could fit in as a backup at either of those spots. If he’s not claimed, he’s a free agent.
