Chiefs-Texans: 4 winners, 6 losers

Let’s start with the winners from the KC Chiefs loss to the Houston Texans..

WINNERS

Dontari Poe

He showed up against the Texans after a slow start in Week 1. He was active in Houston, causing some disruptions. This is a contract year for Poe so we should see a few more of these this year.

Chiefs defense

If you told me on Sunday morning that the Chiefs were going to give up just 19 points, I would’ve taken it and the win. Unfortunately, the win didn’t come but the Chiefs defense, particularly the run defense, settled in. The Chiefs gave up under 97 yards rushing on 34 attempts.

Jeff Allen

Well, his team did win.

I wish I could dislike Jeff Allen. He’s too nice of a guy, talking about our barbecue and all.

Tyreek Hill

He changed the game on special teams for the Chiefs. It wasn’t enough but we’re starting to see what Dave Toub has been talking about with him. A return touchdown is only a matter of time.

LOSERS

Mitch Schwartz

He admitted that he had a rough couple of plays but he also drew a difficult assignment in JJ Watt. He is the Chiefs high paid tackle who is expected to stop these types of pass rushers but I can give him a pass against the three-time defensive player of the year. Eh, it happens. If this is happening multiple times throughout the year however...

Alex Smith

Happy feet were back. Let’s not pin this all on the offensive line or say they were coverage sacks or anything like that. Alex had a bad game.

The second half play caller

The honorary Doug Pederson gets the blame for the way the Chiefs backs were used. The Chiefs rushing attack was working Charcandrick West had 61 yards on six carries while Spencer Ware had 57 on 10 carries. The problem? Just seven rushing attempts in the first half, three of those came on the first drive of the second half (a three-and-out).

Cairo Santos

I almost put him in the winners category because he accounted for all the Chiefs points - four field goals. He did have a pretty good game overall except near the end of the game, when the Chiefs could least afford it, he kicked it out of bounds on a kickoff. The Texans had good field position to go down and kick a field goal.

Knile Davis

If Tyreek is taking kickoff returns as he did in the second half ... what exactly is Knile’s role? The same goes for De’Anthony Thomas.

Chiefs fans

No longer do we get to talk so much trash to Texans fans. This makes me sad.
