Chiefs are as confident as Kevin Harlan has seen in ‘many, many years’

If you’re feeling pretty good about the Kansas City Chiefs this season you are not alone. Kevin Harlan, once the voice of the Chiefs from 1985-93, has seen a lot of Chiefs games over the years. He’s calling the game on Sunday with Rich Gannon and after spending time at Arrowhead this week he says this is as confident a group as he’s been around in Kansas City in a long time.

“The sense I get at Arrowhead today is this team feels incredibly confident,” Kevin Harlan said this week on 810 WHB. “In fact, I would venture to say they’re as confident about what they’ve got, the depth of their team, their roster 1-53, that I have seen in many, many years.

“Alex Smith today is the best I’ve ever seen him in person. Incredibly confident. Loves the offensive line in front of him. He seems to be at the very top of his game. He showed a lot of that in preseason. The running corps even without (Jamaal) Charles is deep. The receivers, deeper. The tight ends, I think you’re gonna see a lot more tight ends in this offense than we’ve already seen with the Pro Bowler in Kelce but I think it will be expanded even more.

“I can’t wait to get the season started for this team. I think they’re in very good shape. I think they’re on par to continue where they left off last regular season with their 10 consecutive wins. They’re a team in full right now. They’re in a very, very good place.”

Whoa. When someone like Kevin Harlan, the voice of America, says that ... I take notice. Even with his Kansas City connections Harlan shoots it straight. It felt good to hear someone like him confirm what I’ve been thinking: this team is going to be good.
