Don’t expect to see many of the Kansas City Chiefs starters in Thursday night’s preseason finale against the Green Bay Packers. Andy Reid said that No. 3 QB Tyler Bray would start the game while Alex Smith and Nick Foles will not play. That suggests other starters won’t be playing either.
This is the way Andy Reid typically handles the final preseason game. Alex Smith doesn’t have anything more to prove. A few more snaps for Foles don’t outweigh the risks of him getting hurt and putting Bray, Aaron Murray or Kevin Hogan as your No. 2.

Speaking of those other backup quarterbacks, they’re supposed to play too. Andy Reid said Murray and Hogan should both get in the game. Murray has been the subject of trade rumors so this could be an important game for him in terms of putting out tape for other teams to analyze.
Meanwhile, the Chiefs have a few positions left to fill. There are position battles continuing but in this game it’s not the starters we’re looking at. Who is the 10th defensive back? The final pass rusher? The eighth offensive lineman? Special teams will come into play with these players as well.
