Chiefs, Andy Reid haven’t talked contract extension yet but it’s coming

We got some time with Kansas City Chiefs owner Clark Hunt up at training camp on Saturday afternoon. I didn’t know Clark would be speaking so I wasn’t prepared with any questions. As I was standing there listening to him speak I thought of a good question: Isn’t Andy Reid heading into the fourth of his five-year contract? Will they talk extension anytime soon?

“It is not a conversation that we’ve had yet,” Clark said. “I would expect at some point we will though.”

It was reported at the time of his hiring that Reid had a five-year deal. I figured the Chiefs would want to do something before he enters the final lame duck year next season. It’s clear Clark and co. want to keep Reid in Kansas City.

As for John Dorsey? I never did know what his contract status was and Clark wasn’t telling us when he was asked.

“Well as you know our contracts are not public, but leave it as, I am very satisfied with the job that both John and Andy are doing and hope that both will be part of the organization for a long time,” Clark said.

The bottom line is, however the details work out, the Chiefs want Dorsey and Reid around for a while. And why shouldn’t they? This has been the best three-year stretch since Marty Schottenheimer.
