The Kansas City Chiefs welcomed Eric Berry back over the weekend which means they have they are one step closer to becoming whole again. (Where are ya, Justin Houston?)
“He’s not a different guy then he was when he was here the last time,” Chiefs coach Andy Reid said on Sunday. “So I’d tell you this – they’re going to welcome him in with open arms and they’ll be glad he’s back. He’s one of the leaders of the team and that part won’t change. The other part was business and now it’s football – he’s ripping and ready to go.”
We can only assume that Berry is in great shape considering he came back in good shape last year after doing chemo. So don’t worry about the type of shape he’s in.
Will he play in the preseason finale on Thursday? It’s unlikely. Andy Reid said again in a call with reporters on Sunday that he was “leaning against” Berry playing against the Packers on Thursday night.
It’s not ideal that Berry doesn’t see any playing time and just a week and a half of practice before the season but it’s what the Chiefs have to work with. I just don’t want to see any tweaks or minor injuries as he adjusts to getting back into football shape.
