It’s Eric Berry day in Kansas City

Today is the day we are expecting Eric Berry to return to the Kansas City Chiefs. Multiple reports emerged over the past few days that Berry is expected to report back to the Chiefs on Sunday. Which is today. So it’s Eric Berry day.

Berry will need to sign his $10.8 million franchise tender in order to formally join the team. That money is already accounted for in the Chiefs approximately $3 million in salary cap space.

Berry will likely be able to play the first regular season but is unlikely to play in Thursday’s preseason finale against Green Bay. Andy Reid said after Saturday’s game that he would lean away from that.

Assuming he’s in shape - he stayed in shape during chemo, so no worries there - he’ll join a Chiefs roster that needs some leadership with Justin Houston and Tamba Hali having been out.

The bottom line is the Chiefs defense is better when Berry is involved. The Chiefs will welcome Berry if / when he arrives later today.
