The Chiefs were facing a third and 14 against the Bears on Saturday afternoon. As you know, this is not where the Chiefs excel. They are not good on third and long. Alex Smith apparently didn’t care because he did a great job eluding the pass rush and running for 15 yards and the first down.

As you can see above, the Chiefs have a third and 14 with four receivers spread wide. The pocket was set up for him to have some running lanes.

He was flushed from the pocket at which point I thought this play was over.

However, Alex turned the corner and turned on the jets. The defensive back covering the receiver there had his back turned and wasn’t in position to get him.

Another defender came up on Alex a few yards before the first down marker but he pulled the JUKE button and...

Boom. Preseason and this guy is laying out for the first. As long as he doesn’t get hurt, that’s awesome.
