Report: Eric Berry expected back with Chiefs on Sunday

Eric Berry is coming back. Reportedly.

The NFL Network’s Ian Rapoport tweeted that Berry is expected back in Kansas City “early next week.” So there we go.

NFL Network’s Rand Getlin and ESPN’s Adam Schefter say it’s Sunday. There’s been plenty of talk that he will be back before Week 1. No one expects him to miss any games. However, this is the closest we’ve seen to someone putting a date on it. This would come after the Chiefs third preseason when most of the starters play. Andy Reid traditionally doesn’t play key starters in the fourth preseason game. So according to that timeline it would appear that Berry is unlikely to participate at all in the preseason this year (which isn’t always a good thing). We’ll see how Andy Reid plays it.

This would presumably give Berry enough time to hit the practice field with the team and get himself back into football shape before Week 1. The Chiefs sound confident he will play against the Chargers in Week 1. He kept himself in shape while going through chemo so you can stop wondering whether he’ll come back in great shape or not.
