NFL cuts 2016: Chiefs making their roster decisions in the next week

The Kansas City Chiefs third preseason game will come this weekend on Saturday, August 27. Just three days later, the KC Chiefs will be making their first round of roster cuts. We are getting closer...

The Chiefs can have up to 90 players on their roster right now. By Tuesday, August 30, the Chiefs will cut down to 75 players. We’ll pay close attention to who does and doesn’t play in the third preseason game because it could provide us some hints on the Chiefs upcoming roster cuts.

The next big cut down is on Saturday, September 3 when the Chiefs will cut down from 75 to 53 players. This is when we’ll see the Chiefs make their most difficult roster decisions. We know they’re going to end up cutting a few good players, especially on the defensive line and perhaps at running back. The Chiefs in years past have claimed other teams cuts; this year I imagine we’re more likely to see other teams claiming the Chiefs cuts.

They had two cuts last year sign elsewhere including one trade; will they top that this year?

The day after all that, September 4, the Chiefs will start making their practice squad. The bulk of that practice squad will be players they cut the day before.
