USA Today Sports ran an interesting feature on Kansas City Chiefs co-OC Brad Childress. Tom Pelissero of USA Today reports on a few new items regarding Childress and his time with Andy Reid in Kansas City. You should definitely read it.
Reid sticks up for his assistant coaches all the time and a lot of Reid coaches - like Childress - have gone onto get head coaching jobs. Reid told Pelissero that Childress, who went 39-35 as a head coach, should get that opportunity to lead a team again. It’s an interesting question because Childress is one of three coordinators in the league who have a winning record as head coach. If experience is your thing...
Pelissero’s piece is full of information. A few other things I found interesting:
It’s suggested that Childress would have been co-OC with Doug Pederson back in 2013 if the Browns had let him out of his contract in time.
Speaking of Pederson, he wanted to bring Childress to Philly as his OC. Reid “caught wind” of it and offered him up the co-OC job in Kansas City.
Did you know that Childress almost after last season? Clearly he didn’t but he had made up his mind, according to the report.
Go read the whole thing, including the tidbit on why Childress went after Brett Favre with the Vikings in 2009.
